A MAN has admitted being in possession of cocaine when he went to watch a football match.

Gareth Williams, of Bryn Gwenfro, Tanyfron, pleaded guilty to possessing wraps of cocaine on Mold Road, on Saturday, April 1.

Wrexham Magistrates Court heard Williams, 39, was at The Racecourse to watch Wrexham’s 1-0 defeat to Tranmere Rovers, when he dropped a wrap of the substance, and was escorted away by the stadium’s security staff towards police.

Rhian Jackson, prosecuting, said: “Security staff saw him drop a small bag of white powder from his hat and escorted him out of the ground. The product was tested and found to be cocaine.

“Another wrap of cocaine was also found in his jeans when in custody.

“He said he uses cocaine once a month, paying £40 for half a gram.”

Bethan Jones, defending, said Williams had planned to take the drugs later on, rather than at the stadium.

She said: “It was never his intention to take drugs at the scene, and he could have tried to hide them or kick them away when they fell from him.”

Ms Jones added Williams has a high-pressured job in the oil industry which sometimes required him to work offshore and abroad.

Magistrates gave Williams a £450 fine, and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £41 victim surcharge.
